Liquid milk foam, intense taste: the flat white is now a standard in many cafés in major cities. With this flat white recipe, you can easily prepare it at home too.
Flat White
INGREDIENTS for 2 people:
- Amount of coffee: 80 ml
- Milk: 220 ml
- Milk foam: 50 ml
PREPARE:
- Froth about 270 ml of hot milk in your milk frother.
- Did you already know?
The basic rule is: always froth the milk first and then brew the espresso. The small amount of espresso simply cools down much faster than the milk. The milk also has time to settle a little before the espresso is brewed (approx. 28 seconds). - Brew two espressos (e.g. Tchibo BARISTA Espresso).
- Carefully pour the milk into the cups with the two brewed espressos. Make sure that the liquid milk predominates. Ideally, the foam should be 5 mm thick.
- If you like, decorate your flat white with latte art.
What is the difference between a cappuccino and a flat white?
Espresso as the base and delicious milk foam: at first glance, there is not much difference between a cappuccino and a flat white - and yet a flat white differs in detail with a more intense coffee taste and less foam. Baristas prepare the flat white with a double espresso and let almost liquid milk foam flow into the cup. This gives the flat white its eponymous look: a flat, white layer of milk. Incidentally, the fine-pored, liquid milk foam is particularly suitable for creative decorations - known as latte art.
