Boil fresh water: While the French press heats up, bring fresh, cold water to a boil. The ideal water temperature for brewing coffee is around 195°F to 205°F (90°C to 96°C).
The Coffee-to-Water Ratio
Achieving the right coffee-to-water ratio is key to a well-balanced cup of coffee. We recommend using a ratio of 1:15 - that's 1 gram of coffee for every 15 grams of water. However, feel free to adjust this ratio based on your personal preference.
The Coarse Grind
For the French press, a coarse grind is essential. The coarseness allows for a slower extraction, resulting in a robust and full-bodied cup of coffee. Aim for a grind size similar to coarse sea salt. Pour hot water: Slowly pour hot water over the coffee grounds, ensuring all grounds are fully saturated. Give it a gentle stir to make sure the coffee is evenly distributed.
Steep time: Place the plunger on top of the French press but do not press it down yet. Let the coffee steep for about four minutes. During this time, the water extracts the flavors from the coffee grounds, resulting in a rich and aromatic brew.
Press and serve: After four minutes, slowly press the plunger down, separating the coffee grounds from the brewed coffee. Pour the freshly brewed coffee into your favorite mug and enjoy the rich flavors and enticing aroma.
